Using the non-fiction book The Other Side of the River by Alex Kotlowitz, choose a topic that connects to a subject from the book.  Then research the various arguments related to the topic.  Using the evidence and opinions from your research, write an essay that shows what you say about the topic in relation to what other say about it.
