Step ONE: Read and study the material in chapters 33 and 35 in your Scott Foresman Writer, 5th ed.

Step TWO: Do TWO things for each example.
1) Rewrite the sentence in correct form.
2) Tell which page in the handbook provides the information needed to provide the correct answer. You must do both to receive credit for any answer.

All answers can be found in chapters 33 (408-416) and 35 (427-440) of the handbook.

Read and study these two chapters carefully. Pay special attention to the box on page 431. Remember that the words in the first column (anybody, anyone etc.) are singular and require singular antecedents and singular verbs, throughout the sentence.
Also note that when words are joined by or or nor, only the word after the or or nor determines whether the subject is singular or plural (see pages 433/410).

Correct any errors in the following:

Question: 1) Neither the players nor the coach agree with the referee’s call.

Question: 2) I think everyone needs to do their best to get the job done.
Question: 3) Did anyone leave their keys on my desk?
Question: 4) My dad says nobody know how to do their fair share of the work on this job.

Question: 5) Four years of college classes are a long time without an income.
Question: 6) The scouts or their mascot must do their best to clean up the mess at the campgrounds.
Question: 7) All of the students had the credits he or she needed to graduate.
Question: 8) My dad is sometimes compared to his brother, but he is surely the best hitter on the team.
Question: 9) To prevent your pet from eating the furniture, keep it locked in the laundry room.
Question: 10) My best friend told his neighbor that he could not take care of the dogs this weekend.
Question: 11) When he sat the plate on the glass countertop, it broke into a thousand pieces.
Question: 12) Every player on the team, must give their best effort in the championship game.
Question: 13) Each person in the seminar must submit a sample of their work in the portfolio.
Question: 14) Every girl at the tryout thinks they are not going to make the team.

Question: 15) I’ve heard it said that you can get an abortion in almost any big city these days.
Question: 16) I took my dogs’ from their cages and gave them a thorough cleaning.
Question: 17) I hope everybody will give this their best efforts.
Question: 18) College athletics are becoming more popular each year.
Question: 19) The dog or the cat are hiding under the porch.
Question: 20) Transportation in this country, cars, boats, and trains, are becoming too expensive.
